Alright so I just got my fetal Doppler in the mail and was so excited to use it. I’m 11w2d and was able to hear the heartbeat at my 8 week ultrasound which ended up measuring at 7w5d. I’ve been dying to hear it again since it’s been almost 4 weeks since my appointment! I wasn’t able to find the heartbeat and now I’m feeling kind of down. I was just really excited to maybe hear it. Can someone share their experiences?

This is normal. It’s so hard to find it on your own that’s why it’s suggested to not get a Doppler because it can induce more anxiety. With my last pregnancy I had an anterior placenta and the midwives could never find the heartbeat with the Doppler. I was always sent to ultrasound to hear heartbeat. So keep that in mind.

So I know my doctor personally won't even attempt the Doppler until 12 weeks in office because he says it is not likely to find it/hear it before then. I think it's hard at this stage because baby is so tiny, it's a very specific location to find it.

Depending on your Doppler, some say not to even use before 14-16 weeks because baby is just soooooo tiny. Also, if you have any extra belly fat, it’ll make it harder too.

So I have tried a couple of times since that first time and have been able to find it each time pretty quickly! It’s amazing. I have the fetal plus which is not on Amazon unfortunately. But it helps to go really slow and angle down towards your pubic bone, then push in a little. Hearing the heart beat has brought me so much joy and reassurance and has actually helped me bond more with what feels kind of abstract still!
